And I have to signup and register on Facebook to take part? That sucks.

But as to how I'd use it, I havea bizspark subscription that unfortunately only gives me access to a single Windows Server 2008 R2 instance. As an independent SharePoint dev working on taming reporting across multiple SharePoint instances within an enterprise I need to create multiple SharePoint instances which implies multiple server instances. Currently I cannot do so, so I'm having to speculate that my work is correct without fully testing it. An MSDN subscription would give me the means to fully test and prove the ieas behind the product I am writing.

David: Yes it's a lot easier to select a winner and more important, contact the winner via facebook. Moreover we just launched our facebook page, so it made sense to host the contest/giveaway there. We are currently accepting comments only made on our facebook discussion. Apologies for the inconvenience caused.

What date is the last day to activate the MSDN 25 digital number?

Once we send the license code, it is advisable to activate it as soon as possible, before October 2010.

Does MS report these to the IRS as gifts or winnings?  If so I won't even enter because I can't afford the taxes on an extra $12k in pseudo-income.  Also, when the year expires do you have to stop using the license or is it a perpetual license?  I certainly can't afford to re-up in a year on a license that expensive.

Thanks, I just want to know before I enter since I wouldn't want to win it if it's going to cost me later.

Tax Payer: MS gave these licenses to MVP's to be given away and did not mention any IRS or tax related details. It would be best if you ask these questions over here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/aa948875.aspx to be sure.
